Mission
The Garden Apartments, a retirement facility of St. John's United Church of Christ, in seeking to bring God's blessings to older men and women provides housing in a secure and spiritual environment wherein companionship and fellowship are offered. St. John's Garden Apartments construction was approved by a Congregational Meeting August 15, 1976 and dedicated June 5, 1977. Construction is currently underway on a joint venture with St. John's, The New Glarus Home, and The Monroe Clinic to add 11 apartments to the current St. John's Garden Apartments facility, for a total of 29 units. In addition, a 26 unit elderly care assisted living facility called the St. Clare Friedensheim Apartments is being constructed as part of the project. The facilities will be physically connected and will be managed by The New Glarus Home.
CLINIC BREAKS GROUND ON PROJECT By Julie Kraemer of the Monroe Times New Glarus Home, St. John's United Church (of Christ) and the Monroe Clinic broke ground Friday (9/10/99) at a site between The Monroe Clinic and St. John's Garden Apartments in Monroe for a joint new construction venture. St. John's is adding 11 apartments to its existing 18. And the new St. Clare Friedensheim Apartments will provide 26 units of elderly care assisted living. The apartments will have 28 hours per week of supportive, personal and nursing services. There will be dining and gathering spaces provide and a community dining and gathering place will be built there. The St. Clare apartments will be physically connected to the St. John's apartments. Monroe mayor Bill Ross explained that he was supportive of the Senior Housing Project that is building the new units and would help in the future. He explained that the units will be a place where older people who did not need the constant care of a nursing home would feel relaxed and welcomed.
